Is It Safe To Take Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate At An Old Age?
After head injury accident I lost hearing power in my left ear and ENT specialist advised not to take quine at all. Now a specialist in bone related problem has advised to take HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE SULPHATE. Is it safe/advisable to take it. My age is 70 years present.
Hydroxy chloroquine is a medication commonly used in autoimmune conditions like Rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. HCQ can cause hearing loss and tinnitus (ringing in the ears) in some individuals, particularly with long-term use and at higher doses. This risk may be increased in elderly individuals, who may already have age-related hearing loss.
If you are an elderly individual with a hearing problem, it is important to discuss the potential risks and benefits of HCQ use with your healthcare provider. They can help determine if HCQ is an appropriate medication for you and monitor you for any potential side effects, including hearing problems. It is also important to note that HCQ should only be used under the guidance of a healthcare provider and should never be self-administered.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shah Hussain, General & Family Physician
