Is It Safe To Take MRI While Having Arterial Heart Stents?

I have three arterial heart stents. One installed in 1998 and 2 in 2002. I believe they said they were titanium but cannot verify it.
I am scheduled for an MRI on my back for nerve/disk problems. Is the MRI safe given the stents in my body? I have no other metal issues.
MRI guy says "no problem...we do them all the time".
Urban legend says I'm going to die.

Never mind.
Ignoring urban legend and taking a chance.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

If you had titanium stents put then there is no need to get worried. Even after titanium stents MRI is recommended only after 6 months after the stents are put. Since it is 12 years since your last stent, there is no reason to worry about stent related problems during MRI.

Hope this helps
