Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 36 year old female with ADHD. So far no medications have helped and Adderall made me focus but in front of my laptop foe literally 48 hours straight. I recently read about EFD and it seems I fit it but I want to talk to my doctor.I read about a completed clinical study on Memantine with success with ADHD /EFD. Is this recognized by the FDA for ADHD for a psychiatrist to possibly prescribe me?Thanks,Jennifer Michelcic

Is It Safe To Take Memantine For ADHD?
Hi, It is not safe to take memantine for ADHD. The FDA has approved memantine to treat moderate to severe dementia associated with Alzheimer s disease. Its safety and efficacy in the treatment of ADHD has not been proved on any clinical trials hence it is not advisable to use it for ADHD. Ask your doctor for alternate effective medicine like methylphenidate or atomoxetine for the treatment of ADHD. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
