Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, iam a 25 yr old...I have PCOD problem, from April this year having a heavy flow with pain...doctor prescribed ovral l, for first month it worked but next month it was not able to completely stop it. So prescribed to take primolut n twice a day. It helped but this month again my flow was heavy n with pain. My scan n hormone reports are normal. Please suggest what to do. From 5 th day of period iam taking ovral l n primolut n together, will it cause any problem??
As per my clinical experience, the Primolute N and Ovral are not meant for simultaneous intake as the indications are different and mechanisms over lap for the hormone axis, may cause side effects as well. The Primolut-N is concerned to control heavy bleeding, and used for a period of 3 - 7 days depending upon the clinical severity. Once the heavy bleeding is controlled, you get a withdrawal bleed of lesser quantity within a period of 5-7 days of last pill intake of Primolut-N.
It is the Ovral, which comes into action once the heavy menses have controlled; to get back to previously normal rhythm of flow and to be started from the fifth day of menstrual cycle for a period of 21 days, followed by 7 days of placebo or iron pills. Usually Ovral is continued for a period of 4-6 months as per the clinical need.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
