General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.

I can understand your concern for the safety of the prescribed medications for Rheumatoid arthritis during breast feeding your 10 months old baby boy.
In general, the intake of both Saaz (sulfasalazine) & Hydroxocholorquine (HCQ) will not cause any adverse effect on a 10 months old infant.

However, Saaz should not be used in preterm infants or in babies with hyperbilirubinemia as it increases the risk for a type of jaundice (kernicterus) that can cause brain problems in younger infants.
Regarding HCQs, its quantity in the breast milk is negligible to have any adverse impact, however the benefits of breastfeeding outweigh the risk of small infant doses of hydroxychloroquine in breast milk.

Hope this answers your query.
