Is It Safe To Take Suboxone Instead Of Percocet For Pain Relief?

I have been on suboxone for two years now.I was prescribed 2 8 mg strips a day but only take one so my wife (who used to go for addiction) could take one.we both couldn't afford to go.3 days ago I went to a new pain management doctor and switched back to Percocet 10 mg 3 times a day. I was taking sub for pain not addiction. The first night I was in more pain then usual.the next day I was woken up with extreme pain in an area I haven't had pain in a long time. It's this due to the fact that I'm not taking enough dosage of my Percocet. I also feel like I'm going through some what of a withdrawl. Is this normal? Please help....I don't want my new Doc thinking I'm an addict because I'm not.but feel like I'm not going to have enough need to get me through.thank you

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Percocet is Acetaminophen and Oxycodone. The drug is an opioid drug. The drug is a good pain medicine but this should be used for short periods of time or under regular supervision of a doctor only. The drug is known to result in tolerance to its effects and this is the reason you are having persisting pain despite taking high doses. Suboxone is Buprenorphine and Naloxone combination. The drug is used in opioid dependence but not really a pain medicine. Buprenorphine alone can help in controlling the pain. The drug is a strong pain killer but it is also having abuse potential. In such case I'd advise you to go for opioid patches for pain relief. The patches result in sustained controlled release of drug and help in proper pain control. Visit your doctor for details of treatment.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
