Is It Safe To Take Tramadol Instead Of Hydrocodone For Managing Pain?
my doctor loss his right to prescribe hydrocodone and so he prescribed me Tramadol 50 mg 4 times a day and he will give me maday. I am now under a pain management center for my care and my appointment is April 13, 2015 so that is when he is going to write me a new prescription for the hydrocodone because of the new guidelines. Also they are considering my go0ng on and operating on those 5 dics in my back. is it ok to take 2 Tramadol 50 mg 4 times until then? Will it do me any harm?
It should be safe to take up to 100 mg of Tramadol every 6 hours, no more than 400 mg in 24 hours. It can have side effects such as constipation and sedation, but these should be less than what you would experience with Hydrocodone, so I wouldn't be concerned about this at all.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
