Is It Safe To Take Tylenol While Suffering From Kidney Stones?

I have Spina Bifida, & prone to growing kidney stones. I go in Momday for a stone removal surgery. They can t do Lithotripsy because of my Supra Pubic Catheter. I was having some pain earlier, so I took a generic OTC pain reliever similar to Tylenol, & also two Oxycodones. I m wondeering now if it was safe to do that, but my fiancé said it should be out of my system by Monday. Your thoughts? Thank you in advance.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Actually, Tylenol (paracetamol) is safe for kidney stone pains. Oxycodone combined with paracetamol gives pain relief but long standing Oxycodone is known to enhance stone formation and is also habit forming. It should be stopped before surgery (to avoid more likelihood of reformation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
