My Wife is 5weeks pregnant. Blood test, urine test and hormone level reports are all good during 4 weeks 2 days. Yesterday she had brown spotting followed by red bleeding. When we consulted the doctor, she asked to take sylate and to undergo TVS. Today she will go for TVS scan. Is it safe to take a sylate tab during pregnancy? Can we keep any hopes on the pregnancy? How complicated the case is?
The possibilities in your case are a threatened abortion ( baby is trying to abort) or a missed abortion ( baby has already aborted inside the uterus and is now coming out).
In these cases we prescribe progesterone to help stop the bleeding as hormonal deficiency is considered one treatable cause of abortion. Sylate is not a drug of choice at all.
Only sonography , that too after at least 6 weeks can demonstrate the baby well enough to say if the pregnancy is viable or not. It is too early now, however you may get a baseline scan done now for comparison later.
So just hope for the best and take tablet micronised progesterone or duphaston after discussing with your doctor.
Hope this was helpful. Thanks for the query. Feel free to ask more. Dr Madhuri Bagde
