Is It Safe To Take Anesthesia Shot While Having Low Heart Rate?

I am having both hips replaced tomorrow and I have a low heart rate of 40 bpm, this has been a normal heart rate for me. I am worried about going under anesthesia. My doctor signed off on the procedure, but I am still worried. Any advice or concerns I should have. Do I run the risk of not waking up?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to HCM.

Heart rate 40 is low obviously but if you have constant heart rate of 40 beats per minute then it can be considered as a normal.

Because in some sports persons like athletes and foot-ball players, heart rate is constantly remain between 40 to 45 beats per minute.

So,if you are facing no problem and having no underlying heart pathology then there is absolutely no need to be worried regarding general anesthesia for your hip replacement.

However, medical fitness is must before going for major surgery.Your must have done it and verified it.

So,do not bother and just go for surgery.
