Is It Safe To Take Dependal-m During Pregnancy?

hi dr good evning, my wife is having 7 month pregnency, 20 days before we cum 2 know abot UTI by urine culture its gram -. dr advised us only ampiicillin is safe acc.to senstivity report during pregnancy. after taking 15 days dr asked is there any symptomatic problem, as their was no problem so dr asked for another culture test after 5 days of taking medicine ...dr now report again shows same bacteria.. then we sent sample to DR LAL PATH.lab. and it shows their is no bacterial growth after 48 hours.... know from tow days she had upper and lower abdomen pain and loose motion after eating, now dr advised Dependal-m it may be due to amebiasis. so dr is it safe to take this during pregnancy for 5 days... .

Dependal-M contains Furazolidone and Metronidazole. Furazolidone is an anti-protozoal agent acts in the intestine particularly in colon to act against the infective agents including bacteria. There is no definitive study about the drug causing miscarriage in pregnant mothers.

Metronidazole is an antibiotic commonly prescribed in food poisoning. There is proven findings that the drug causing any miscarriages in pregnancy. But , the intake is contraindicated during first three months of pregnancy. Diarrhea may be due to drug induced gastritis. Discuss with the doctor about the same. Proton pump inhibitors such as Pantoprazole helps to prevent gastritis. Avoid spicy, fat rich foods to prevent gastritis. Caffeine is not advised for the same. Take plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.
