Is It Safe To Take Low Dose Of Thiazides While On Bystolic?

Taking Bystolic 5 mg and 10 mg benzapril 6 years now. Experience ankle pain. But was tolerable compared to side effects of either Toporal or Norvasc. Doc recently increased Benzapril to 20 mg, can hardly walk, so much pain. Stopped benzapril 2 days ago feel gear. BP higher 145/95 on combo 117/78 pulse 72 either way. Have appointment next week, was thinking of asking for low dose Thiazides to go with Bystolic.? Bystolic calms me down, eases stress at work age 62,Thank You

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that you can use the combination of the bystolic and a thiazide such bezide or hydrochlorothiazide.

The only possible issue is the level of potassium and this may not cause a problem, it is mainly theoretical. Bystolic increases potassium and thiazides decrease so the exact effect on potassium levels is not known.
These can be monitored with blood tests.

I hope this helps
