Is It Safe To Take Psyllium While On Metformin And L-Thyroxine?

I am having constipation for long time, perhaps for more than a year. Ultimate Flora (50 billions) did not help completely. I have tried over the counter laxative which helped temporarily. I do not want to be dependent regularly on medications for my constipation. Someone suggested to include 1 tbls of Psyllium to my daily diet. Will that be helpful? I take L-Thyroxine 75 mcg daily as my thyroid gland were removed 15 years ago. I also take 500 mg metformin daily for my pre-diabetes. Will it have any adverse effect with these medications?

Hello,

Psyllium is a good choice for constipation and is very safe to use. It works naturally as a soluble fibre, and so does not have any serious interactions with other medications, including the medications you take. I think including Psyllium to your diet would be beneficial.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
