Is It Safe To Take Reduced Dosage Of Antibiotics For Pharyngitis?

I'm taking Amoxicillin for Pharyngitis. I was prescribed to take 3 pills a day for 10 days and was wondering if it is okay if I just took 2. The pills are 500mg and I just think 1500mg in one day would be too much for me. Could this lead to the bacteria become resistant? Is it okay to just take 2?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it is safe and appropriate to take Amoxicillin 500 mg three times a day and it will not cause any harm or resistent bacteria..
Two doses will not be appropriate because amoxicillin is cleared out from body within 8 hours of oral intake..
Therefore in order to maintain a continuous effect of the antibiotic in the body so that it can fight infection and there is no overgrowth of bacteria again you need to take it every 8 hours and it will make thrice a day dosage..
So do not worry and continue taking it thrice a day for the number of days it is advised to you..
For faster relief from infection you can also do warm saline gargles, take Ibuprofen to relieve pain and chew a Vitamin C pellet daily as it will boost immunity..
You can suck throat lozenges and also avoid spicy and chilled foods..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
