Is It Safe To Take Stool Softener For Bowel Movement?
Hi I have a problem having a BM due to tortuous intestines. I am under the care of an excellent G.I . Dr. and a pain doctor. The pain doctor recommended colace docusate today. Not the laxative kind just the stool softener. After looking at the write up I am unsure if I should take it or not. I have taken just one so far today. I was going to take one more tonight before bed time. I have pain when the body is going through its process of getting ready to have a BM due to the kinks and twisting of my colon. Why would they recommend this product if it was not safe to take and for ever. The person who told me to take it takes it herself.
Hello Stool softners are usually prescribed for patients with constipation or with problems like anal fissure which may lead to painful defecation. Stool softners are usually safe and will not lead to any complications. Hence you can take the stool softners as per the advice of your doctor.
Thank you
