Is It Safe To Travel By Air After Suffering A Concussion?
I had a concussion (mild for sure), two weeks ago today playing in a hockey game. I never went to the dr. but talked w/athletic trainers who all said it's probably a mild concussion. Rest, stay away from physical activity until the headache goes away and then start lightly and see how it does. The light headedness/headache (which was always quite mild) went away after a week. Four days later (so 11 days after concussion) I did the eliptical for 20 min lightly (heart rate 106 average where normally I'm in the 140's when I work out; resting heart rate around 55-65) and the next day the headache, although slight, was back. It went away again that night (Wed this past week) and has been away except today for a little came back after being on a computer a long time). I'm to fly to San Diego from Denver tomorrow will this be fine?
There is no contraindication to traveling by air following a concussion. If you are suffering from residual headaches then, changes in air pressure going up and down in an airplane may cause some discomfort....in some cases, could cause major discomfort. Be aware of that potential glitch...maybe take a few Tylenol or Excedrin with you in case this happens....otherwise, BON VOYAGE! Go BLUE JACKETS!
