Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is It Safe To Undergo Ankle Surgery While Having Sinus Infection?
I have had a headache for three days. very low grade fever (100-101) Friday and Saturday, Chills Saturday but not before or since. can t get into Dr. until Wed. I have ankle surgery scheduled for next Tuesday and I m concerned if I have a sinus infection it could delay the surgery. So two questions. #1 - does this sound like a sinus infection or something else, #2 - if it is a sinus infection or something else would this impact surgery schedule?
The most common signs and symptom in sinusitis are referral headache and pain on face area, fever, PND (postnasal discharge) distinguished by directly visiting doctor, cough, bad odor discharge and etc. The etiology could be viral or bacterial.
To me your symptoms are more similar to light/moderate respiratory system infection involving throat, naso-pharyngeal region. Elective surgery has to be postponed until you get well soon and completely. If you have a minor surgery,it can be conducted by regional anesthesia less than 1 hour, and the operation can be potentially performed.
