Is It Safe To Undergo Gallbladder Removal Surgery During Cough And Congestion?
I m scheduled for gallbladder removal surgery on Wednesday, but I ve had a cough for 8 days and chest congestion for about 5 days. That s all. No fever, no sneezing or runny/stuffy nose. I don t know what to do. I m afraid they ll reschedule my surgery so I m afraid to say anything. I NEED my gallbladder out. I ve been sick for months and we re leaving to go out of town in a two day car ride on March 17th so I can t postpone it too much longer.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. It is not advisable to undergo surgery for gall bladder when you have infection of respiratory tract with symptoms of cough and congestion. If it is not controlled and cured, this may produce increased abdominal pressure during cough and lead to hampering the process of wound healing following surgery. It may land up in post-operative complications as well. Kindly get treated for the infection adequately by means of a course of antibiotics and decongestant medications before undergoing surgery. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
