Is It Safe To Use Bupropion SR While On Lexapro?

I am taking generic Lexapro for Anxiety/Depression. I went to my doctor yesterday to get assistance with smoking cessation. He prescribed Bupropion SR 100 mg once daily. I specifically asked him whether this would interact with the Lexapro. The literature with the prescription says do not use to quit smoking. It also says do not use with other anti-depressants. Should I be concerned?

I can understand your concern. Lexapro is Escitalopram and the drug is a SSRI drug used in depression and anxiety disorders. Bupropion is also an antidepressant drug which is also used in smoking cessation. The drug help to reduce the craving and result in improvement of symptoms of restlessness and anxiety. Various research studies prove this. The drug is also used as augmentation drug with SSRIs for resistant depression. So it can be used along with Lexapro and there is no risk associated if used as per prescribed doses. Take the drugs as per prescribed doses only.
