Is It Safe To Use Hydrocortisone For Rashes On Right Knee And Elbows?

My 10 year old daughter has a rash on her right knee and both elbows. It is now starting on her back. The rash is red, itchy, and bumpy. I put hydrocortisone on it, but worried and not sure what it is. It started last night. Not sure what it is or what it's from. Is the hydrocortisone ok to use until we get into to see the doctor?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.
I appreciate your concern for your beloved daughter.

Yes, it is safe to use Hydrocortisone cream for the symptomatic relief.
Nothing to worry.
A mild steroid like Hydrocortisone cream is safe and effective in relieving the redness, itching and swelling caused by suspected allergic reaction or insect bite.
You can also give her antihistamine like Levocetrizine till visit a doctor for proper clinical examination and to find out the cause and treatment of such rash.

Hope to have answered your query.
