Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 3 weeks pregnant. I was treated for BV a week ago and stopped using the Metronidazole applicator 4 nights into it when I found out I was pregnant. I still have BV and the gyno wants me to use Metronidazole again for 5 nights. Is this a risky medication during the first trimester or in general for pregnancy? I am very concerned this will result in a miscarriage.
Use of metronidazole during pregnancy has been controversial. The chances of getting metronidazole drug side effect during pregnancy is very very rare. The possible side effect id preterm birth while using drug. But there is chances of getting this side effect is only 1%. But my point of view i prefer to avoid this drug during pregnancy.
I hope my advice will help you a lot. Thanks and Regards. Dr Vijay
