Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I switched from lutera to orsythia, lutera worked perfect for me. As i am 2 days into the orsythia pill, i don t feel any bad symptoms. How long do i need to wait, until i can have unprotected sex and for the pill to start working?. Is orsythia as good as lutera? Thanks
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. Orsythia contains ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel, which is a combined pill and is used as contraception to prevent pregnancy. Lutera is also also a combined pill which contains levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol. It is very important to continue taking this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is very important that you follow the package instructions to find the first tablet and start with the first tablet in the pack, and take them in the correct order. You should not skip any doses and take each dose at the same time in a day. Pregnancy is more likely if you miss pills, start a new pack late, or take your pill at a different time of the day than usual. It this is the first cycle you have started using the pill, you need to use an additional form of non-hormonal birth control (such as condoms, spermicide) for the first 7 days to prevent pregnancy until the medication has enough time to work. Thereafter, you can have unprotected intercourse. Using this medication does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
