Is It Safe To Use Spermicide As Contraceptive?

Have been on loestrin 24 fe for 11 months. I have never missed a pill and always take around the same time every night, maybe an hour early or hour late sometimes. I was on my 3rd day of a new pack. For the first time I used a spermicide instead of a condom, he did not ejaculate inside. Am I protected or should I worry.

Hello,

Spermicide when used alone has a high failure rate. Spermicide when used alone can cause pregnancy (18 out of 100 women). Spermicides do not kill sperms. They decrease the sperm motility. Spermicide should be used along with male condoms for better efficacy (98 % efficacy).

Avoid smoking, intake of alcohol, medications and other addictions as it may reduce the efficacy of BC pills. You should be on regular CP if you are not planning for a baby. Take CP regularly on the same time everyday for the best efficacy. In case of unprotected intercourse, you should take emergency CP within 72 hours of unprotected sex.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
