Is It Safe To Wear Contact Lenses For Prolonged Time While Using Rewetting Drops?

Hi. I often wear my contacts for a prolonged time. Often in excess of 2-3 weeks. However, I put rewetting drops in both my eyes every night and every morning. Is this OK? Is putting those drops in having an effect at all? I have been doing this for well over a year now.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

do you mean you do not remove your contacts every night before sleeping and all you do is apply the drops every now and then? If so, this can be really harmful resulting in a lack of oxygen supply to parts of your eye which can cause irreversible damage to your eye and in extreme cases even result in blindness. Please be more responsible and use the lens as advised.

Best wishes.
