My girlfriend hit her head pretty hard sunday night she has been sleeping a lot!! im pretty sure she has a level 2 concussion. she wakes up and walks , makes jokes ,has a grat memory etc.. the only concern is she sleeps about 6 hour streches and then iss up for an hour or two then wants to sleep more. She never was never knocked out. The pain seems to have gotten a little better but not much. Its been almost 48 hours since she hit her head. Is this normal or emergency room? Thank you very much

Hello. I have been through your question and understand your concern.

In head trauma it is very important if there was any loss of consciousness, amnesia about the event, vomiting and slurred speech.

If any of these was present, then you should consider a CT scan to exclude any major concern.

Otherwise, you should monitor her closely in the next 72 hours. In case the headache becomes intense and one of these symptoms appear you should seek emergent medical care.

Otherwise, you should not worry about.

Needing sleep after a head trauma might be normal, as long as none of these symptoms are present.

Hope this helps. Please feel free using MHC again
