Is Itching Normal Around The Non Displaced Fracture Of The Fibula?

Four days ago I slipped on ice and was diagnosed with a non displaced fracture of the fibula. I have a half cast and will be re evaluated on this coming Monday. I have developed a burning sensation and mild itch around the break, some numbness and pins. Is this normal at this stage of recovery?

Hi,

Thank you for providing the brief history of you.

A thorough neuromuscular assessment is advised.

As you had a non-displaced fracture of the fibula and now on half cast, due to the cast, there will be a lack of skin exposure to the environment and also, due to sweat glands leading to secretion of sweat and making that area accumulation of the sweat fluids will lead to itching which is a common symptom. Also, once the cast is removed you can clean the area with the spirit and apply some moisturizer which will help further.

This is the common issues most patients will face and there is nothing such to worry more
