Is Itching On Scar Area And Pulling Sensation After Having Pacemaker Normal?
Hello my mom is 91 and had a pace maker put in five months ago she is doing very good only says she been itching on her scar area is that normal part of the process of healing cause when you have a scab sometimes afterwards it itches and its healing? And says she feels a pulling
I think she has developed hypertrophic/keloidal scaring at the stitch site. Keloids are a result of excessive formation of scar tissue in susceptible individuals.
Chest and shoulders are notorious for keloidal scaring in susceptible individuals. Keloids are best managed with intralesional steroids e.g intralesional triamcinolone acetonide. The depot injection causes breakdown of the excessive collagen tissue present in keloidal scar, thereby causing them to flatten.
The injection might be repeated after 3 weeks if required.
