Is Itchy Cracked Skin Caused Due To Chlorinated Swimming Water?
I have places on my arms and back that started breaking out during the summer. I have tried many different things but now it looks like it might be worse. it was painful in the sun at first, itched, and of course, I scratched. I am still scratching. I stayed in the pool a lot and I am worried it might be something to do with the chlorine but I thought it might have cleared by now but it hasn t. what do you suggest? thanks.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Itchy lesion on skin with history of using swimming pool often is suggestive of fungal infection. Chlorinated water is not good for skin and it may cause dry and irritation of skin. However, it will not lead to breaking up of skin and itching. Fungal infection is likely to be causing itchy lesions. Swimming pools are visited by large number of people and transmission of fungal infection is common. Moreover, wet skin harbors fungal infection more easily than dry skin. I suggest you to consult your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment with anti-fungal ointment. Keep your skin especially skin of feet and creases dry and avoid swimming pool till infection is completely treated.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
