Hi Dear !! Thanks for your query to HCM .
Read and reviewed your query and health concerns.
IN the given situation,Your doctor could plan for-Laparoscopic Chol surgery with readiness to use option of Open
Cholecystectomy, in case of failure of the Lap.
In any case You may need to do revision-LP, if needed.
This plan would reduce your dilemma, because if it is successful by Lap Chole without disturbing LP shunt, you have that chance of sparing the old LP.
But using open option, would add up- revision LP,as the old Lap-Gastric band port, would hinder in planning open lap surgery.
So as suggested-Lap Cholecystectomy would be a better option for saving revision Lumbo-peritoneal Shunt.
But ultimately, it is the comfort and confidence of attending Surgeon would be more important in using options for the current- Cholecystectomy.
So you better leave this option to your Surgeon/ or opt for the one who can do cholecystectomy with either way risk.
Hope this would help you to plan further care of this complex illness of yours.
