Is Left Sided Abdominal Pain A Symptom Of Disorder In The Pancreas?

I have had pain on the left side of my abdomen for many years now. The pain radiates to the left side of my back. I have serious GI issues, but is this normal? I saw a GI doctor a couple of years ago who said it was gas, but this pain lasts 10 hours or more. I have type 2 diabetes now and have always been glucose intolerant. Could the problem be with my pancreas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It can be due to stomach, however, the possibility of pancreatitis or cholecystitis should be ruled out. I suggest having baseline fasting ultrasound as well as lipase, amylase levels as well as complete blood count to see for white cell count along with liver function tests. Meanwhile, antacids like omerperazole before meals along with motility agents like domperidone or itapride before meals may be used.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards,
