My father is suffering from Hepatitis B. His liver is damaged more and doctors are suggesting for liver transplantation. My father is of Age 64. Is he good for the treatment at this stage? After Treatment how long he might need to strugle? Doctors say that even after transplantation the virus may spread again. Is there any other way of treatment
Hi, For a kidney you can get dialysis done for life. Liver is not like that. It is important for the whole body metabolic demands and unlike kidney, organ can grow in the donor back to its original size in two months. Age is not the criteria but requirements is important. He is still 64 and compatible donors are known to function well enough. Survival rate is good for up to five to ten years. In severe cases, no other mode of treatment exists. Hope it helps. Any further information, happy to help again.
