Is Long Term Treatment With Remicade Advisable For Pyoderma Gangrenosum?
Hi my name is Renee and my Dr. asked me to help her research the length of time long term treatment of remicade for the treatment of PG is recommended for. My ulcer is closed as of just a day or 2 ago. But they want me to remain on remicade for awhile but my Dr. isn't sure how long is safe. I must say that I have done very well with it, and have only just had my 6th infusion. My wound is now closed. I work for DHMC and my dermatologist is Chief resident for our derm dept. I have helped in my recovery as much as I can, and will continue to do my part in staying well. Thanks for your reply and time in this matter, Renee

No, long term treatment is not advisable for Pyoderma. First line treatment is local steroid and cyclosporine, if not helpful than oral steroid and MMF and other drugs may be tried. Remicade can be prescribed if disease is not controlled with these drugs and for a limited period of time. Also associated disease control is very important.
Hope this helps and provides answers to your question. If you have any further queries, please don’t hesitate to ask me again I wish you good health, take care --Dr. Alok
