Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my 9 year old daughter has taken florastor for the last three years daily. I don t think that it helps with her gas and crampy stomach that she complains about quite a bit but I know during flu season it keeps her from being sick for as long as others. Is it harmful for kids to take this every day?
** 1. Florastor [Saccharomyces Boulardii] is a probiotic used to improve digestion and intestinal flora and going by her age, it must have been recommended for Irritable bowel, diarrhea, lactose intolerance [unless other specific indications exist]
2. bloating/flatulence is side effect of the said drug and consult your doctor/pharmacist regarding the same for any other alternative, although it is safe in kids for longer use and if symptoms persists, try reducing the dose or take on alternate days [after consulting your doctor]
PS. since florastor is a yeast thus is not destroyed by antibiotics and remember and long-term use of Florastor is not associated with complications.
