Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I had a operation 4 weeks ago for a ruptured Ligament, broken tibia and fractured ankle to have it repaired and a pin fitted across the joints, I was prescribed Tramadol to take but only ever take one 50mg. In the beginning I was taking one three times daily but now only take one at night as the ligament part of the injury pains me at night, is this okay as I have read they can be addictive. Thanks in advance Sylvia Reilly.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..
As per your complain Tramadol is a Narcotic painkiller and although it is very effective in relieving severe pain and narcotics are commonly advised after any surgical procedure for pain control.. Being a Narcotic, it is true that it can cause addiction and long term intake is not indicated.. In case if the pain has started reducing and you are taking it only once at night I would suggest you to consult your treating physician and get evaluated and he can advise you to stop taking Tramadol and advise you anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen or Naproxen for pain control..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
