Is Loss Of Libido Due To Withdrawal Of Hormone Therapy?
Recently meaning at least the last 8 mo. Sex has been difficult my doctor gave me premarin and estrace cream neither have helped. Could my testosterone be off? 8 mo. ago I had a high labido , my doctor took me off hormones, told me that testosterone caused cancer . Can you give me any helpful direction thank you
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You are a bit vague though. Apart from not telling your sex it is unclear why were you under testosterone before. Was there a diagnosed hormonal deficiency? What about before taking testosterone, was there a libido issue then? Your doctor is right in saying that testosterone therapy may have it's negative effects, the issue should be to identify why there was a loss of libido in the first place.
Naturally, low testosterone may be a cause. So to answer your question, withdrawal may have to do with it. But there are other causes as well, so before considering restarting therapy, hormonal tests must be done and other causes such as stress and depression are also considered.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
