Is Loss Of Smell In Spite Of Nasal Polyps Removal Surgery A Cause For Concern?
Hi Doctor, I m 46 yr old male. I had chronic nasal polyps and could not smell. I recently got my surgery of polyps removal around 25 days ago. I can breathe easy now but Still, I could not smell anything. pls let me know what should I do. Thanks, Rakesh Sharma
As per your query you have lost the sense of smell in spite of nasal polyps removal surgery . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to may reasons like sinusitis , nervous dysfunction , nasal polyp and certain medications, including antibiotics, antidepressants . But in your case it seems to me that the loss of smell is probably due to nerve injury during the sugery specially olfactory nerve . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan , nasal endoscopy or viral culture test to rule out other condition . Doctor may also refer you to neurologist if he/she fing problem to be related with nerve dysfunction or injury . For now apply warm compresses on face and do warm saline gargles .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
