Is Manuka Honey Safe To Use On A Wound?

my question = I am researching manuka Honey as suggested by my husband s Foot Doctor -- what are the pros and cons of this product and others like it ? also, my husband has a hole in the toe beside the great toe on his right foot --- the doctor could look into the hole and could see bone at the end of the hole-- husband has returned to doctor 3 times and doctor has scraped away dry dead skin; this hole has not healed and closed yet; I have been on line to find which products have a track record of working well to heal wounds; might there be any product or products that have proved to work well ?
