Is Maxtra Composition The Right Medication For Viral Infection In Child ?

My daughter has been prescribed MAXTRA Composition: Phenylephrine hydrochloride IP 5mg Chlorpheniramine Maleate IP 2mg. The dr says she has viral infection bcoz of a running nose and chest congestion, its been 3 days and she has now started to pass lose motions.. pls urgently advise if my daughter has been given the right medicine .. also she has been prescribed CEFPODOXIME PROXETIL 50mg.

Hello.

Thanks for writing to us.
n children, running nose and chest congestion are mostly due to a viral infection or allergic in origin. Your daughter has benn given antiallergic for symptomatic relief and an antibiotic- cefpodoxime for superadded infection.
Loose motions can happen due to viral gut infection or after taking antibiotics. It is mostly self limiting. Adding probiotics to her daily routine will be helpful.
