Hi,
Mild hepatomegaly with normal echopattern, without additional findings, generally has no clinical significance. Most common reasons for this situation: (1) measurement error, (2) variation of normal, (3) mild
hepatic steatosis.
(1) Measurement error: Size of liver should be measured from midclavicular line and during
ultrasound it is not always easy to make it right through midclavicular line and take the right measurement. So if ultrasound probe was a little lateral to the midclavicular line that may cause a false result.
(2) Variation of normal: It is a very common reason for mild hepatomegaly. Normal upper limit for liver size is considered 15.5-16 cm but that means %90 of healthy population have this upper limit. So if there is no additional findings, mild hepatomegaly can be just normal.
(3) Mild hepatic steatosis: If there is mild
fatty liver,
radiologist may not detect it and echopattern can be reported normal. Fatty liver is also a mild hepatomegaly reason.
I can say blood tests about liver seems normal. So I would not suggest additional finding just for this finding. Fasting blood
glucose would be better below 100, I suggest exercises or walking at least 30 minutes a day and at least 3 days a week. After 6 months a control ultrasound and blood test would be enough.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
