Is Mild Pain In My Upper Stomach Caused By Ulcer?

Hi, I have a mild pain in my upper stomach, it hurts a few days a week, it s been going on for about a year on and off. I went to my Dr. a year ago and was given Prilosec, which I did not see a difference. I eat healthy, I don t have any unusual stool (normal). It s not heartburn, it s not bad enough to go to the Dr. again, but it has waken me up from sleep a few times (3) last month. I m thinking it may be and ulcer, but I don t have any of the symptoms. My family has a history of gallbladder, but I don t have symptoms. Not sure to ignore or have a ultra sound or some sort of x-ray. Your help would be appreciated!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Pain in the epigastrium is commonly due to gastritis, acid reflux, lactose intolerance, drinking alcohol, overeating, IBS, peptic ulcer disease, etc.

You are suggested to get clinically examined & assessed by a GP, get CBC, Urinalysis, Imaging tests, etc done to get treated at the earliest.

In the meantime avoid oily spicy junk food. Take antacids & PPI's for relieve. You can take spasmol (spasmoproxyvon), one sos when needed.

Take high fiber diet & stay well hydrated. Avoid constipation & stay well hydrated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
