Is Moderate Effacement Of The Subarachnoid Space Normal While Having Chiari Malformation Type One?
My daughter has Chiari Malformation Type one and has been decompressed. Her most recent MRI report states moderate effacement of the subarachnoid space. This is the first time I ve seen this terminology on any of her many MRI reports. Care to put this into lamens terms for me? (She also has tissue build up around C1 that we re contemplating a fusion surgery for.) Thank you!
Nothing with Chiari is normal. Each one is quite different in the shape of the area at the top of the spine. This affects the outflow from the brain and there is often abrasion of the spine and nerves causing pain.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
