Is Mucus Discharge During Coughing A Symptom Of Asthma?

I have gobs of mucus that I cough up from my bronchial tubles or lungs a few times a day It has become chronic now since I had bronchitis two years ago. There is congestion there, is that what asthma is? My doctor wants me to take puffers but I feel I want to cough up those gobs. I bike and work out a lot and feel I do not have asthma or full blown asthma where you have trouble breathing. what do you think ? It is sticky gobs that stick in my throat and want to be coughed up. Wouldn t those puffers push them back in my lungs?? They need to come out!

Hi. You could be having a cough variant asthma. Well the puff meds will only do you good. One it would open up your bronchi enabling you to cough out easily and totally. Secondly the mucus producing cells which cause the phlegm will be put under check so you will have lesser amounts of mucus being produced. Plz go on with the inhalers. They are safe and effective. Asthma when treated early will give you good results. Treated later the amount of reversibility declines. Take care.
