Is Nadocin And Metrogyl Usage Suggestible For Perioral Dermatitis?
HI Doctor, I am 32 yr old female - diagnosed with perioral dermatitis - tiny bumps , scalling around lips and mouth and some other area of my face. I am allergic to lipsticks and most of the lip prducts. I have cracked chapped lips and also small bumps that itches- adviced nadocin and metrogyl . Will that cure my condition please - I have been suffering for 2 years now - it is very frustrating and comes back again.
Perioral dermatitis or snuffles is a difficult condition to treat. It presents as perioral/perinasal bumps which may be itchy and sometimes topped with a pus head. People whoc have sensitive skin or a tendency for rosacea are more prone to develop it.
Etiology is poorly understood and the factors that are implicated in the development of perioral dermatitis are usage of potent steroids on face, sunscreens, moisturizers, flourinated toothpastes etc.
Though topical antiacne medicines e.g nadifloxacin(nadicin), metronidazole, clindamycin, benzoyl peroxide etc works well for perioral dermatitis, I usually prescribe an oral tetracycline e.g doxycycline or minocycline for faster response and more complete response. The oral medication may be required to be continued for at least 3-6 months for lasting benefits.
regards
