Is Nystatin The Treatment For Sore Throat, Swollen Tonsils, Clogged Ears And Headaches? Can It Be Related To Sinus Infection?

Hi!
I have been experiencing sore throat, swollen tonsils, a feeling of clogged ears, severe fatigue, muscle aches and pains and almost constant headaches (all over!) for the last 9 months (after giving birth to my second child). I have been to my family doc several times, and ENTabout 2 months ago who says she can't find anything wrong with my ears and gave my nystatin for my throat thinking maybe it was yeast. Nothing has helped and in fact i feel worse all the time. I was treated for a sinus infection around the time that it all started and I got relief for a bit, but now i just feel flu-y all the time and it is horrid. I've tried sinus rinses, nasal sprays, allergy pills....everything! I am otherwise healthy and have never had any serious problems before. I don't take medication, just a few vitamins and probiotics. Any information would be helpful!!

Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding sore throat, sinus infection, clogged ear and headache.

After considering the symptoms and co-relating clinical history it appears as you are suffering from upper respiratory tract infection involving nose and sinuses , throat and associated with eustachian tube dysfunction. This eustachian tube dysfunction is in turn has given rise to clogged ear.

To manage it you should take-

1- Antibiotics (broad spectrum).

2- Anti histaminic.

3- Anti inflammatory.

4- decongestant.

5- Steam inhalation & warm saline gargling.

6- Steroid.

I hope above will help you but if after above treatment your symptoms persists than consult your ENT doctor for examination , investigations and further management.

Regards.
