Is Pain In Knee And Foot Due To Elevated Sugar Level?

Hello My name is Jenny. my husband has type 2 diabetes and earlier today he told me that he had pain in his knee and foot, i checked his blood sugar and it reads 326. Could that be the reason he was feeling pain. What is a good number for blood sugar?

Hello jenny,
326 is particularly high blood sugar dear. Diabetics cant have normal blood glucose levels (100-120), since their bodies get used to functioning at high sugar levels. But keeping blood sugar levels between 150-180 is advisable, and definitely below 250.

Now coming to second part of your question, diabetes does cause problem in knees and legs but mostly it is tingling and numbness in lower limbs. In worst cases, there is complete loss of sensations. Pain could be mostly due to 2 reasons:

1. in case your husband is overweight, since, type-2 diabetics mostly are.
2. long standing diabetes can cause calcium deficiency leading to pain in knees and legs.

otherwise also, it is a good idea to keep diabetics on vitamin B12 and Calcium- Vit. D supplementation to maintain good health and vitality. maintaining BMI below 25 is also advisable

Regards,
Dr. Sonia
