Is Pain In The Back, Chest And While Breathing After A Fall Normal?

I fell on my back at work and slowly my chest started to hurt whenever I took a breath. it s been about 3 hours or so now and it hurts to swallow and breathe. there s pain in my back, chest and the base of my throat where my collarbones meet. I can t lay on my back or my stomach and moving around makes me cough which makes it hurt worse. the pain is a tightening feeling. what s wrong? is it serious?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi.

I am not sure about the impact and degree of the fall which is why I would only want to recommend a chest X-ray and a physical examination by a doctor if you do not mind going ahead with this. Any injuries noted on an X-ray will most definitely require medical attention, but if it is all just to do with muscular trauma, then you should recover with time and rest.

Best wishes.
