Is Pain Radiating Towards The Jaw A Sign Of Salivary Duct Stones?

I was diagnosed with a blocked salivary gland which is now clear however I am still experiencing pains from under my ear down my face to my jaw . Comes and goes but it s the same pain I experienced before being told I had a blocked gland . Very uncomfortable feeling . Regular doctor thinks that facial nerve stretched out when my gland was blocked And it will take time to get back to normal . I was on two different antibiotics when my gland was blocked . What do you think ? Another stone ?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Your symptoms of having pain under the ear to face and jaw that comes and goes seems to be most probably due to nerve related problem..

As the salivary gland stone was removed, the pain occurring now is not due to another stone.

Yours symptoms are pointing towards "Trigeminal Neuralgia".

Trigeminal Nerve is the nerve of face, any disturbance in its function can cause firing of impulses leading to episodes of severe short-lasting pain..

The most common cause is a large artery impinging over the nerve causing damage of the Myelin Sheath [ a protective cover over the nerve] leading to severe electric shock like pain..

Other causes are disorders like Multiple sclerosis, tumour compressing the nerve, physical trauma etc..

Consult an Emergency room and get evaluated so that they can do investigations like x ray , MRI SCAN etc to confirm the cause.

For nerve related pain , neurotic painkillers like Carbamazipine [Tegretol], Gabapantin [Neurontin] can be advised..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
