Is Painful Back While Walking Post Injury Suggestive Of Muscle Tear?

I fell at an exercise class and hit my right side of back below waistline on a shelf in the wall. Very painful & took me 15 - 20 minutes to be able to stand and walk (with pain). Exray showed nothing broken but it is still painful to walk (have to stop every so often because of pain) 2 weeks out. Could it be a muscle tear?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The narrated symptoms indicate possible muscle sprain or strain more likely than muscle tear. My guidelines at present:
- Local application of heating pad 5 minutes each 3 times a day
- Use of spray or ointment with Diclofenac, Linseed oil and Capsaicin
- Anti inflammatory medicines as ibuprofen, tramadol hydrochloride or similar trough prescription basis
- Avoiding sudden bending, weight lifting
- Wax bath or laser physiotherapy in selected cases

Being in regular follow up with your doc would be serving further
course of action to cure at earliest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
