Is Painful Burning Sensation In The Esophagus Due To Prednisone?
Im on my first 24 hr period of prednisone 20 mg bid. I had a severe reaction to a ct contrast. Very swollen face, Severe rash over my chest back neck and butterfly rash on my face. I took my pill at 9:00 N.Y. Time and have had extreme throat and upper esophageal pain/burning. Can This be a side effect from the prednisone? My doc also has my taking Zyrtec to help it along. Thanks so much!
This could be from the prednisone, which is a corticosteroid. It could also be from the allergic reaction itself too. I advise that you call the doctor who prescribed the prednisone who will likely prescribe you a proton pump inhibitor medication such as Pantoprozole to help decrease acid production. Your doctor may also want you to take a medication to protect your upper digestive lining such as Cytotec or sucralfate. Your doctor may want to give you the corticosteroid in another form or dosage too. So do call now and don't wait.
