Is Painful Lower Back Post Recovery From UTI Suggestive Of Kidney Infection?

I had a UTI last week. The symptoms started on Monday and I took the 2 x cranberry sachets and loads of water. It took a week but I flushed out the infection and I can now pee without any pain. So I thought that the problem has cleared up. This morning I have got a pain with my lower back and I am scared that it has travelled up to my kidneys. Can I have a kidney infection even though the pain when I wee has gone? If I do have a kidney infection is there any chance that I can flush this out with water? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
there are upper urinary tract infections where infection is usually in kidneys.when infection is in bladder or urethral tract we call lower urinary tract infections. pain while passing urine is common in lower urinary tract infections . but when there is an infection of kidneys pain while passing urine less common. back pain can be a feature of kidney infection. as you are not proferly treart for lower uti with antibiotics , infection spreading to kidneys is possible. anyway kidney infections cant resolve with only fluids. so please consult your family physician. he will arrange urine full report, urine culture and ultra sound scan of abdomen for you. if symptoms suggestive will start antibiotics . if there is a kidney infection you may need antibiotics in injection forms. so you may need to admit to hospital in that case.
